Gala screenings of the newest well known titles, premiere screenings of films by renowned directors.

This year's Highlights section includes a number of festival hits, such as the Zellner brothers' devilish anti-western Damsel, starring Robert Pattison and Mia Wasikowska, a competition entrant at the Berlinale; Michael Mayer's The Seagull, an adaptation of the timeless, intelligent play by Anton Chekhov, starring, among others, Annette Bening and Saoirse Ronan; Life Itself, starring Oscar Isaac and Olivia Wilde, the latest film by Dan Fogelman, director of  Crazy, Stupid, Love; Yann Demange's  White Boy Rick, which, set in the 1980s, tells the story of one of the youngest criminals in the history of the United States, with Matthew McConaughey playing the main character's father; Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot, the latest film by Gus Van Santa (ElephantGood Will Hunting), starring the wonderful Joaquin Phoenix as well-known cartoonist John Callahan; and Leave No Trace by Debra Granik, the latest film by one of the icons of American independent cinema.
