Punk musicians scorn authority. Their songs frequently and explicitly call out police and other authority figures for perceived abuses. Their fans often express undying loyalty. But what happens to these radical agitators and 20-year veterans of the punk scene when they wrap up the latest exhausting tour and head to their warm homes, loving wives and small children?
The Other F Word follows several iconic punk figures’ adventures in fatherhood. We see Jim Lindberg, leader of skater-punk mainstays Pennywise, during a world tour that provides food for thought on a long career, while others who talk about becoming and being fathers include Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 and Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers. Most of them recount personal revolutions sparked by the realities of caring for a new life. There are tears, memories of unloving fathers and… frequent avowals that parental authority ain’t so bad after all.
