The Diary of a Teenage Girl
Teenage Minnie (Bel Powley, leading new actress of the year) lives alone with her mother (Kristen Wiig) in San Francisco in the wild 1970s. Recently, she started sleeping with her mother's 35-year-old boyfriend (a mustachioed Alexander Skarsgård), more out of curiosity than love, though the latter does come into play. Her first adult experiences give her a new perspective on reality and increased audacity in peer relationships. Debut director Marielle Heller makes a film for and about young adults that ideally fills the coming-of-age niche. With humor but without being infantile, she shares a story about the travails of youth, teenage experimentation and love's disappointments in a slightly nostalgic tone set to a soundtrack by The Stooges and T. Rex. „The Guardian” writes Heller has made a striking debut too - entertaining, insightful and ferociously confident.

Marielle Heller
(b. 1979) She is a theater and film actress, screenwriter and director who studied at prestigious universities in Los Angeles and London. In 2012, she received the Sundance scholarship for young directors and wrote pilot television series scripts for ABC and 20th Century Fox. Heller also received the "Directors to Watch" prize at the Palm Springs Film Festival alongside directors such as Sean Baker and Avy DuVernay. She is influenced by the achievements of Nicole Holofcener and Jill Solloway. Heller is currently preparing to direct a biopic about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg starring Natalie Portman.
