7 Days in Hell

Jake Szymanski, USA 2015, 43’

The courts of Wimbledon, the tennis crème de la crème, a place where talent and skill are as important as properly reserved manners. So when the step-brother of the Williams sisters curses on the court, everything goes to hell. And that's just the opening salvo of the longest, seven-day, match in tennis history. Director Jake Szymanski has mockumentous fun, he pushes the envelope in a film where nothing is sacred and jabs get thrown with equal comic fury at the bald guy from Star Trek and the British Queen (a vindictive granny who kicks ass in the elevator). It is an acerbic satire of big time sports, especially of the "crazed parent," as well as the Swedish prison system. It all plays out in the A-list company of Serena Williams, John McEnroe, Lena Dunham, David Copperfield and Michael Sheen.
