Retrospective: Alex Ross Perry

A director whose authorial, independent voice unites the East Coast cinematic community and shapes the direction of the New York film scene. In his films, the protagonists don’t seek our sympathy. Their self-love is entirely sufficient for them. The endless, narcissistic monologues they deliver incessantly soon reveal a desperation that turns them into incantations that have lost their power. In such circumstances, intelligent, self-sensitive individuals resort to the only available defense mechanism: contempt for those around them. Despite this (or because of it), all these derailers are observed with great fascination. Perry is a special guest of the festival and one of the Indie Star Award winners.
