Elia Kazan

Elia Kazan was a film and theater director, screenwriter, and writer. He won two best director Oscars ( Gentleman’s Agreement and  On the Waterfront) and an honorary Oscar. He helped create the legend of Marlon Brando  (Streetcar Named Desire and  On the Waterfront) and of James Dean ( East of Eden).  America, America, Splendour in the GrassBaby Doll, and  Panic in the Streets are some of his better-known films. An extraordinary realist and stylist who changed the face of American cinema after World War II, he was rejected by some in the film industry after testifying before McCarthy’s House Un-American Activities Committee.
