More time has passed since the premiere of JFK to today than between the Kennedy assassination and the film’s premiere. And yet Oliver Stone's film remains the most interesting and best produced project about the Dallas shooting. While the script echoes some of the conspiracy theories, Stone did not care about critics' accusations. He saw his film as the start of a road that would lead Americans to the ultimate truth about President Kennedy's death. The world hasn’t learned the whole truth to this day - as evidenced by Stone's documentary JFK: Revisited: Through the Looking Glass, also showing at this year’s American Film Festival. Nonetheless, JFK, with its all-star cast and countless Oscar and Golden Globe nominations was the director's artistic and commercial triumph. And his film, regardless of the conclusions it may suggest, is a model thriller reminding us that politics is always a game where the ruthless take all.

Oliver Stone is an actor, director, producer, and screenwriter. Winner of three Oscars - for directing Platoon and Born on the Fourth of July, and for Alan Parker's script for Midnight Express - as well as dozens of other film awards. Stone does not hide from difficult topics, constantly revealing the dark sides of American history. In recent years, he has been devoted primarily to documentary productions, often involving various conspiracy theories, or fraternizing with dictators (he has devoted films, among others, to Hugo Chavez and Vladimir Putin). Still, he remains one of the most important and controversial authors of American cinema.
