Barry Levinson

Baltimore native Barry Levinson studied journalism in Washington before moving to Los Angeles to work as a screenwriter for entertainment programs. He began his film career collaborating with Mel Brooks on Silent Movie and High Anxiety. Levinson made his directorial debut with ... And Justice for All (1979), starring Al Pacino, for which he also co-wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay. His biggest hit came with Rain Man (1988), which won four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director, as well as Best Actor for Dustin Hoffman, one of Levinson’s favorite collaborators, who was also nominated for Wag the Dog.
