Georden West’s feature debut delves into the story of Boston’s Playland Café, a queer club that operated from 1937 to 1998. Playland goes beyond a realistic recreation of the past, combining archival elements with fiction, historical recordings with surreal theatrical fantasy.

Georden West

Hailing from Colorado, Georden West studied at Boston's Emerson College film school and interned at London's prestigious SHOWStudio. West creates installations and sculptures that examine the intersecting outskirts of cinema and fashion. West also worked at Club Café, an iconic queer club operating since the 1980s in downtown Boston and was active in the Boston LGBTQIA+ Artist Alliance. The 2019 debut short, Patron Saint, showed at international festivals and „Filmmaker Magazine” named West among its 2022 „25 New Faces of Independent Cinema.” Playland is its full-length debut.
