A bittersweet story about difficult relationships among young women marks this feature film debut from Ally Pankiw, director of Ariana Grande’s music videos and screenwriter of Schitt’s Creek. A young, vigorous stand-up comic takes a job caring for 12-year-old Brooke, trying to win the teen’s affection and find her own style on stage.
Born in 1986 in Toronto, Ally Pankiw is a Canadian director and screenwriter who worked on The Great, Black Mirror, and wrote on numerous shows, e.g., Schitt's Creek. She directed music videos for Ariana Grande, Janelle Monae and Lil Jon as well as commercials for Pepsi, Amazon, and Chanel. Ally's films screened at TIFF, Outfest and SXSW. When not creating, she runs a mentoring program for young directors. I Used to be Funny is her feature debut.
