Born in 1970 in London, Alex Garland made a name for himself with his debut novel The Beach, which became a cult generational hit. He transitioned to film as a screenwriter, collaborating on such iconic titles as Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later and Mark Romanek's Never Let Me Go. Garland's directorial debut was the science fiction thriller Ex Machina. In addition to his work in cinema, he has also contributed to video game development.
