The hit of last year's Toronto festival stars the fantastic Vicky Krieps and Viggo Mortensen as immigrants struggling to carve out a life in the rugged American Wild West. Blending Western, melodrama, and revenge cinema, the film is filtered through the director’s poetic sensitivity.
Viggo Mortensen is an American-Danish Renaissance man. Though best known as an actor (three-time Academy Award nominee for Eastern Promises, Captain Fantastic, and Green Book), he is also a director, writer, musician, photographer, composer, and founder of the independent publishing house Percival Press. Mortensen holds degrees in Iberian studies and political science from St. Lawrence University in Canton. He began his acting career in the mid-1980s with a role in Peter Weir’s Witness and gained acclaim for roles in films by directors such as Tony Scott, Ridley Scott, and David Cronenberg, as well as for playing Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Mortensen made his directorial debut with Falling.
