The white fluffy rabbit is a gift from one of Rebecca’s fans, a cam girl whose night sessions help her make ends meet. Besides that, she works part-time as an office employee and still visits her ex. The woman in her twenties seems more like an observer of her own life than a participant, living it mainly from the perspective of her bed. She is pulled out of this lethargy by a relationship with a mysterious client (Austin Amelio) and an unexpected reconnection with her father (Perry Yung) in New York’s Chinatown. Bunnylovr, shot with shallow focus and tight close-ups, isolates the protagonist from the outside world, sketching a portrait of emotional hunger and an inner crisis of a young adult. In her feature debut, Katarina Zhu is not only the director and screenwriter but also the lead actress, giving Rebecca’s character a sense of longing and melancholy. Her friend is played by Rachel Sennott (familiar from Shiva Baby, 11th AFF), who is also one of the film’s producers.
Film artist, editor, and actress from New York. A graduate of the Tisch School of the Arts in acting. Her feature debut Bunnylovr premiered at this year’s Sundance Festival. Zhu also works freelance as a video editor for clients such as Glossier.
