Lockjaw

Sabrina Greco, USA 2025, 81’
Fantasy Life Mad Bills to Pay: (or Destiny, dile que no soy malo)

Rayna (Blu Hunt), the protagonist of Lockjaw, the feature debut from American director Sabrina Greco, is the very image of confusion, using alcohol as an armor to shield herself from the unpredictable world around her. Already struggling to express her emotions, a broken jaw and the resulting immobilization deepen her awkwardness in relationships. This temporary inability to move her jaw becomes a powerful metaphor for her wider life struggles. Lockjaw offers a comedic tone inspired by mumblecore, presenting a mosaic of quirky characters who evoke mixed feelings. The film is a surreal and absurd exploration of shame; not so much shame before others but a profound self-directed embarrassment, and an obsession with feeling out of place. This fixation becomes a barrier, preventing meaningful connection even with those closest to us.

Sabrina Greco

Sabrina Greco is an American director, screenwriter, and editor. She earned her bachelor's degree in Film and Television from Boston University. Inspired by the works of John Cassavetes, Tom Noonan, and Elaine May, she began to question the importance of traditional screenplay structure and found her voice in independent cinema. A fan of mumblecore, especially Mary Bronstein's Yeast, Greco drew on this influence for her feature-length narrative debut Lockjaw, which premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival.
