In Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums, Richie pitches a tent in the middle of his room, Chas is obsessed with surviving the Armageddon while constantly donning a red tracksuit, and Margot runs away from home and returns without her finger. To wit, in Moonrise Kingdom Anderson’s kingdom continues flourishing. Here, children play adults and grownups are the gloomy kids: Sam and Suzy – innocent, teenage rebels – steal a tent, run away from their miserable families and exasperating summer camps with the aim of losing their innocence. That’s exactly when Anderson gets his innocence back - in telling a story about youth uncontaminated by sophistication. He manages to create a brilliant irony-soaked portrait of traditionalists clashing with carefree counter-culture.
Wes Anderson was born in 1969 in Houston, Texas. During childhood, Anderson began writing plays and making Super 8 movies. He attended college at the University of Texas in Austin, majoring in philosophy, where he met Owen Wilson. The duo began making short films, including the short Bottle Rocket (1994). It’s success at the Sundance Film Festival helped them collect funding to extend the film into feature length. It is followed by critically acclaimed pictures such as Rushmore (1998), Royal Tenenbaums (2001) and the animated feature, Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009), the latter two films earning Anderson Oscar nominations.
