Bluebird

Lance Edmands, USA 2013, 90’

A bluebird flies into a school bus, getting the attention of driver Lesley as she checks for kids’ hats left on the seats. Her moment of wonder carries a heavy toll: the following morning, a half-frozen student is discovered on one of the seats. Where was his mother? On one of her many benders. The accident gives rise to changes in this small Maine town, where life hums to the rhythm of the seasons and and changes at the local lumber mill. "As a filmmaker, I’m drawn to environment and atmosphere. To me, the relationship between people and landscape is completely fascinating. This fascination is ultimately what compelled me to explore the mythology of where I grew up. In Maine, the dense forest looms ever present, reminding us that nature is king and we are simply at the mercy of its will," relates Lance Edmands about his inspirations in an interview for Whatculture.com.
