Summer of Blood

Summer of Blood is the funniest vampire movie since From Dusk Till Dawn or a one-of-a-kind mix of Nosferatu the Vampyre and Deep Throat. In this case, eruptions of violence are as essential to what is happening on screen as arguments full of biting comebacks are to New York snobs. This could be no other way, however, when the filmmaker is Obur Tukel, a favorite among Wrocław audiences. Like in his cult film Richard’s Wedding, the director himself plays the character of an extroverted intellectual confused by interpersonal relations. As mentioned in one of the opening scenes, Eric Sparrow’s motto is: I don’t wanna make troubles, I just wanna make love! This declaration proves to be prophetic when Sparrow is accidentally bitten by a vampire and, as a result, gains extraordinary sexual prowess. By interspersing pop-culture references with his ideas, Tukel ensures that the film will appeal both to fans of the Twilight Saga and to readers of Bram Stoker.
