A half-naked girl runs out into the street. Someone or something is after her. It’s tough to say what draws more attention, her sensual nudity or fear. Soon, the 19-year-old Jay will find herself in the same situation. Ever since she was a child, Jay dreamed of going on a date with a cute boy. Finally, she gets invited to a movie, dinner, and, ultimately, in his car, she finds that fulfillment can have unexpected consequences. During sex, the boy infects Jay with a curse that will turn her into a bloody heap unless the passes it to another boy by going to bed with him. Jay refuses to believe it until a venerable phantom appears to confirm her fate. And so, she begins her search for a lover. Mood is much more important than the gallons of blood in David Robert Mitchell’s stylized horror, the story which is influenced by Hideo Nakata’s ghastly classic The Ring, and offers a nod visually to Friday the 13th and Halloween.
