Approaching 50 Nick directs a young and popular, though not entirely talented actor to play a guy who has lost everything in an off-Broadway play. After yet another terrible rehearsal, Nick dumps the celebrity in frustration and hands the lead to his old friend John who literally has lost everything to hurricane Sandy. John is couchsurfing at Nick's and pondering his future. Lenny, who is trying to pen a script about avaricious bankers also tries to rebound from the emotional dregs. Working and living together bring Nick and John together, but forces them to confront questions about the sense of their artistic endeavors and whether it's acceptable to forge a friend's tragedy into a play. Jenner Furst peeks into the daily lives of artists played by real-life friends - Nick Sandow, who you might recognize from Orange is the New Black along with the TheSoprano's John Ventimiglia and Michael Imperioli.
He is a producer, director, screenwriter and editor, who co-produced the Emmy-nominated and Peabody Award-winning documentary series Brick City. In 2011, Furst and Julia Nason founded Cinemart, which produces features, documentaries and commercial films. He has worked with Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Robert Redford and Forest Whitaker. Houses is his second feature-length film.
