Catherine has had a really terrible year. After two terrible losses her world completely falls apart and the only thing keeping her together is her friend Virginia 'Ginny,' with whom she travels for a week in the country. Despite the pastoral atmosphere, the despair and desperation of Catherine, an unfulfilled artist, deepens while the frequently spiteful Ginny pours petrol on the fire. The women recall last year's stay in the cottage when the situation was reversed - Ginny was having the breakdown while Catherine bloomed in the arms of her man. That is also when the arrogant and truculent Rich appeared in their lives; he now plays an important role in this relationship among frenemies. Meanwhile, Catherine is subsumed by psychosis to the point of worrying for her own safety. This poignant and skin-crawling film by director Alex Perry Ross pays homage to Bergman's Persona and Polanski's Repulsion as well as the esthetics of 1970s cinema. „Variety” called it an acidly funny and unnerving portrait of a psychological breakdown.
An actor and director born in 1984 in Pennsylvania. He holds a degree in film from New York University but admits that he owes more to working at an East Village video rental, where he met numerous crew members and actors, whom he later invited to work on his films. His scripts include literary connections – his debut film, Impolex, was a variation on Gravity’s Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon, while The Color Wheel is suffused with the spirit of writing by Philip Roth.
