The Long Dumb Road

Hannah Fidell, USA 2018, 90’
European premiere
The Hate U Give Wild Nights with Emily

Nathan (Tony Revolori, known from The Grand Budapest Hotel), an aspiring photographer, sets off on a journey to Los Angeles. When his car breaks down in a little town in Texas, he gets an annoying companion – a rarely sober car mechanic Richard (Jason Mantzoukas), who has just lost his job and does not mind a temporary change of scenery. A road movie directed by Hannah Fidell, acclaimed at the Sundance Film Festival, the movie includes a reference to the most famous scene from It Happened One Night directed by Frank Capra – two men who have nothing in common are slowly starting to help each other, whether it comes to visiting a long lost childhood sweetheart or sharing their life philosophy. Three things matter in life. Friends, shelter, and a little bit of food in my belly. Everything else, bro, is fuckin’ bullshit..., as Richard teaches the inexperienced Nathan. Well, maybe also adventures. Especially those that cannot be planned.
