Dollhouse: The Eradication of Female Subjectivity in American Popular Culture Relaxer

Panos Cosmatos goes back to 1983 and, with the help of an extraordinary soundtrack by Jóhann Jóhannsson, who died tragically, and the psychedelic cinematography of Benjamin Loeb, not to mention Nicolas Cage's best performance in years, he's made the strangest movie of the year. In part a tender reference to exploitation cinema, in part a brutal story about vengeance-or perhaps rather about ghosts - Mandy is a brain-busting film hallucination. Taking an example from his father, who died many years earlier and who made Rambo 2 and Cobra, among other films, Cosmatos doesn't believe in taking things slowly. In his sensational second film, a lumberjack named Red Miller (Cage, who practically boils with rage) takes vengeance on the people who murdered his beloved, the delicate Mandy, while at the same time watching commercials with cheese-loving goblins, snorting cocaine and listening to practical advice from Bill Duke from Predator. After leaving the cinema, you should expect a solid hangover.

Warning: This film contains a sequence of flashing lights which might affect customers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
