Judy

Rupert Goold, UK 2019, 118’
Polish premiere
Georgetown Seberg

A film like this about Judy Garland was much needed - honest, showing fragments of real life away from the paparazzi and tinsel that surround celebrities. Garland, like almost every Hollywood star, has experienced both the ups and downs of fame from an early age and has been among the most popular actors of virtually every generation. She was practically bred to be a star by Louis B. Mayer of MGM, daily dressed, fed, and made up by her exclusive staff. A simple girl from Grand Rapids quickly advanced in the industry hierarchy. Unfortunately, this star shone brightly briefly and burned out very quickly. Rupert Goold's film tells about the final, most dramatic moment in her life. However, Judy is more than just the story of a famous child actress. It also marks the great comeback of the wonderful Renee Zellweger, whose passionate performance says a lot about her own troubles and cruelty of public opinion. Zellweger is back stronger than ever and is currently at the forefront of the Oscar race. This is a huge role.
