Bigger Thomas (Ashton Sanders) is a young African American who lives with his mother and siblings in Chicago. The boy is moderately involved in the relationship with his girlfriend, has dyed green hair, wears a punk jacket, smokes marijuana and has a gun. He rejects his buddy's proposal to earn easy money. One day he becomes the driver for wealthy businessman Will Dalton (Bill Camp). As he enters an appealing new world of money and power, and also engages in a relationship with Dalton's daughter, Mary, he suddenly faces unforeseen choices and dangerous circumstances that will forever change his life. This contemporary interpretation of Richard Wright's novel from 1940 is the movie debut of visual artist Rashid Johnson, with the script penned by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan-Lori Parks.
