Sweet Thing

Alexandre Rockwell, a guest of the ninth American Film Festival and winner of an Indie Star Award, is back with a film that he calls a spiritual continuation of his well-known 2013 film Feet. As he did nearly a decade earlier, Rockwell tells the story of determined siblings trying to find their place in a world dominated by irresponsible adults. Growing impatient with the attitude of their drunken father and browbeaten mother, Lana and Nico finally decide to take radical measures. In the mold of the protagonists from Rockwell’s best films, the kids decide to embark on a journey in search of inner freedom. As in classic road movies, the protagonists in Sweet Thing experience by turns both funny and bitter adventures, with unpredictable consequences. Regardless of how their odyssey ends, they are constantly accompanied by the romantic aura of Van Morrison’s eponymous song, in which the singer dreams of [walking] and [talking] in gardens all misty and wet with rain and ... never, never, never [growing] so old again.
