All the Streets Are Silent: The Convergence of Hip Hop and Skateboarding (1987-1997)

Theo Anthony's latest film opens with a quote from William Blake, As the Eye - such the Object. All Light, Everywhere is a cinematic essay about seeing, perceiving reality, and the subjectivism of visual experiences. And just as in Rat Film (7th AFF), where the rodent plague is a pretext for reflecting on segregation, poverty and social divisions, so in All Light, Everywhere the themes include violence, surveillance technology and the profit-driven system of universal control. Because the eyes here are primarily body cameras accompanying American policemen in their encounters and drones patrolling the sky over Baltimore. Over five years in production, Anthony's film is a visual collage, slow-paced, illustrated with ambient music by Dan Deacon, and also an erudite puzzle evoking the film experiments of Jean-Luc Godard and Harun Farocki as well as essays by Mark Cousins or Jonathan Crary on perception.

Audience award nominated film. Please pick up a voting card on entering the screening and tear in a place marking your opinion and throw it into an assigned box after the screening (cards and boxes will be available at the theaters). The filmmakers have a chance of winning $5,000 sponsored by BNY Mellon, Poland.
