Cryptozoo
A delightful (and controversial) animated feature for adults that made a splash at the Sundance and Berlinale festivals. Known for his wild imagination, cartoonist and animator Dash Shaw (My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea, 8th AFF) invites viewers to the colorful world of mystical and mythological creatures, in which the managers of a certain zoo search for the legendary monster that devours dreams. During their journey, they will have to answer the key question of whether the beasts and other creatures met along the way should be captured and placed in the zoo or left alone in the wild, so that they can continue to live in peace. An extremely ambitious and intriguing work for aesthetes, outsiders, individualists, modern hippies and those who care. A New York Times reviewer described Cryptozoo as, Imbued with the polychromatic sensibility of 1960s animation like Heinz Edelmann's work on The Yellow Submarine, Cryptozoo, the new feature directed by Dash Shaw, with animation directed by Jane Samborski, is a rapturously hallucinogenic daydream for mature audiences.

Dash Shaw
Born in Hollywood, Dash Shaw creates graphic novels and animated films; he is also a director, actor, producer, and screenwriter. He authored the Cosplayers, Doctors and New School graphic novels. At 19, he was named one of the most promising artists at the Small Press Expo. He studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and his works have been shown several times in the United States as part of individual and group exhibitions, as well as in London, the Venice Biennale, Amiens and Australia.
