Have you ever heard a voice in your head repeatedly telling you that you will fail, not make it, you are too weak, and that others are much better? Violet, the narrator, is this voice in the head and a young woman (Olivia Munn), seeking her way life and looking for happiness, is in his crosshairs. Why can't I be happy? - the voice asks again and again, and the answer provides new obstacles still: a thoughtless boss, tactless friends, troublesome family members, all former boyfriends in new relationships, married and with happy babies by their side. Bateman observes her protagonist with great empathy and sensitivity, showing various ways out of the situation, making it clear that our fate depends only on ourselves and our decisions. Even more importantly, she allows for doubts and experiencing days when everyone needs a helping hand from someone who is kind. And that’s also okay. There is a light at the end of this tunnel. The film premiered at SXSW.
