Jockey

Clint Bentley, USA 2021, 95’
Polish premiere
C'mon C'mon Red Rocket

Jockey Jackson Silva (Clifton Collins Jr., awarded for this role at Sundance) has spent his entire life in the saddle. It failed to bring him fame, wealth, let alone health, but he still loves his job; pity that it’s usually an unrequited love. Beautifully shot by cinematographer Adolpho Veloso, debut director Clint Bentley uses professional riders to bear out the true passion that always pushes competitors forward while eating the from the inside. Even so, when the last chance for a victory that would crown his entire career finally emerges, Jackson doesn't hesitate a moment. Who he is actually fighting for? Himself, the horse's owner, who seems an empathetic friend (Molly Parker, Emmy nominee for House of Cards) or maybe the estranged boy claiming to be his son? Can his ageing body handle the pressure?
