Bad Attitude: The Art of Spain Rodriguez

Spain Rodriguez, the author of controversial underground comics, did not fit in with the politically correct era - even he seemed to be aware of that. Director Susan Stern talks lovingly about her deceased husband, while admitting that he did not fully understand feminism and „retained the right to objectify women” in his works. At the same time she discloses that she is not sure whom she is defending: him or herself. It was in comics that Rodriguez discovered his darkest secrets, talked about fights with members of the „Road Vulture” motorcycle gang and the pleasure of „kicking someone's ass.” Nevertheless, his colleagues, from R. Crumb to Art Spiegelman, praise the talent of the man who created Trashman and Big Bitch, described by the New York Times as „the pornographic cross between Angel Charlie and Rambo.” And he never stopped creating, although he had been told since childhood that comics were the sum of all vulgarity.
