"An inquiry will afford us amusement," this famous line by Edgar Allan Poe, considered the shortest definition of the detective story, is the motto of this year's Visual Front—a New Horizons section where cinema intertwines with other art forms.
This year's Visual Front program includes 10 unique films in which artists undertake various investigations, lead us along new paths of seeing and thinking about the present day. They guide us into intellectually dangerous back alleys and labyrinths of speculation; we look at material evidence of unclear status and reconstruct crime scenes. The artists' detective work discovers new places and lends new meaning to the familiar.

The theme of loneliness and cultural alienation in a stratified society as presented in movies... No-no... Now it's time for some serious questions. Who wants to be a fox and who prefers to lie around like a cat for the rest of their lives? Which childhood fairy tale evoke the warmest memories? Which dish is the tastiest in the world? And what do we love Nicolas Cage for?
Today we invite you to the premiere of "Question from the Hat," our original program in which Staszek Abramik from the New Horizons team asks totally random questions. Ula Śniegowska, the artistic director of the American Film Festival and Małgorzata Sadowska, Nowe Horyzonty programmer, are in his crosshairs. The recording was made thanks to our sponsor - Mercedes-Benz Grupa Wróbel, which has been providing transportation to the New Horizons and the American Film Festivals for many years. Mateusz and Krzysztof Malart supervised the interview.
