Sunday, Time for Discoveries

US in Progress 2022 awards

What is easy to miss during the week can stand out on Sunday, when we have a little more time to reflect using calm senses — no need to rush, you can slow down.

Today, we recommend taking a look at the incredibly rich Discoveries section — twenty movies that use a variety of aesthetics, from all over the world, with a multitude of narratives about the present, past and future.

48 hours to watch movies

We also remind you that the rule of 48 hours to watch a movie still applies — even for films started at 23:59 on Sunday. After the show has started (by clicking "watch"), you will still have two days to finish watching.

Closing gala and awards ceremony

Tomorrow, we invite you to watch the closing gala of the 20th New Horizons and 11th American Film Festivals. On Sunday evening, we will find out which titles from the New Horizons International Competition, the Spectrum, and American Docs sections appealed to festival audiences the most. We will also learn the Grand Prix winner selected from among the films presented in the NH competition and the Zuzanna Jagoda Kolska Award for the youngest artist showing a film at the festival, and the scholarship recipients selected from among directors showing short films in the Shortlist section. The broadcast of the gala will start at 6:00 p.m. on the New Horizons Facebook profile.

The winner will be selected by a jury consisting of Dorota Lech (programmer of the Toronto International Film Festival), Krzysztof Skonieczny (director), Monika Strzępka (theater director), Klaudia Śmieja (film producer) and Greg Zgliński (director, screenwriter, cinematographer).

BNY Mellon is the sponsor of the American Docs competition Award.

OKRE is the sponsor of the scholarship for filmmakers presenting films in the Shortlist section.

The author of the designs for the four competition statuettes (Grand Prix, Audience Award, Spectrum, American Docs) is Prof. Małgorzata Dajewska from the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław.

The award for the youngest filmmaker is awarded by the Zuzanna Jagoda Kolska Foundation and is funded by Jan Jakub Kolski, Ted Leszczyński and Julia Crystal Factory from Piechowice. Sebastian Pietkiewicz designed the statuette provided to the winner.
