Jim Jarmusch’s „FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER” will open the festival

TAURON Group becomes the title partner of the 16th American Film Festival Polonica section: from Poland to America (and back again)

The whole family’s here. FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER, Jim Jarmusch’s latest film and winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival, will open the TAURON American Film Festival on November 6.

Jim, we missed you. Welcome home.

Father, brother, Jim Jarmusch

It’s been six long years since we last saw a new gem from Jarmusch. We’ve waited impatiently—because for many of us, Jim is a true father figure. Years ago, his work deeply inspired our team to create AFF and to show that American cinema is “something more.” Today, he feels like an older brother, still inspiring new generations of filmmakers: we not only await each of his projects with excitement, but also recognize the distinct Jarmusch spirit in many other films across the festival lineup. His cinema is defined by unhurried, meticulous observation of reality, the ability to find pure poetry in the everyday, a sharp sense of humor, and an extraordinary ear for dialogue—hallmarks of filmmaking à la Jarmusch. His works have appeared at our festivals many times; his music has filled the New Horizons Cinema (including Jozef van Wissem’s concert, co-author of the Only Lovers Left Alive score, at the 4th AFF); and in 2018, the Indie Star Award went to Sara Driver, Jarmusch’s life and artistic partner. Everything stays in the family.

FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER, presented thanks to our excellent cooperation with Gutek Film, is a natural and perfect choice to open the 16th TAURON American Film Festival (Wrocław, November 6–11). The screening will mark the Polish premiere of Jim Jarmusch’s latest film.

The best—and most rewarding—way to experience AFF? As always: with a festival pass. The first pool has already sold out, but since the American family is big, we’ve released an additional batch.

FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER: family, or all those little details

Venice Film Festival Golden Lion winner FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER is a feature film, though carefully constructed in the form of a triptych. The three stories all concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents), and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each in a different country. FATHER is set in the Northeast US, MOTHER in Dublin, Ireland, and SISTER BROTHER in Paris, France. The film is a series of character studies, quiet, observational and non-judgmental – a comedy, but interwoven with threads of melancholy. According to Jim Jarmusch: „FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER is a kind of anti-action film, its subtle and quiet style carefully constructed to allow small details to accumulate – almost like flowers being carefully placed in three delicate arrangements. Collaborations with the masterful cinematographers Frederick Elmes and Yorick Le Saux, the brilliant editor Afonso Gonçalves and other frequent collaborators elevate what started as words on a page into a form of pure cinema”.

A constellation of stars will shine on the big screen: Tom Waits, Adam Driver, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Sarah Greene, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, and Françoise Lebrun.
