John Schlesinger
A prominent British film and theatre director, actor, and producer of television and documentary films. After successes in the UK, his career took off in Hollywood as a specialist in thrillers and dramas that raise important social issues. A three-time Oscar nominee, he finally got a statuette for Midnight Cowboy. He died in 2003.
