This documentary about the ”first lady of folk” alternates between examining Joan Baez’s social activism and the price she paid for it. It is also a story of repressed memories and deeply hidden traumas that marked her forever.

Karen O’Connor is an award-winning film producer. For over 20 years she has worked together with Miri Navasky. They co-directed several documentaries, including the Emmy-nominated The New Asylums (2015), which won the Robert F. Kennedy Grand Prize Journalism Award. Their latest production, Joan Baez I Am A Noise, premiered at this year's Berlinale.

Miri Navasky
Miri Navasky is an award-winning director and co-founder of Mead Street Films. For over 20 years she has worked together with Karen O’Connor. They direct socially engaged documentaries, including The Killer at Thurston High (2000), which won an award at Banff Mountain Film Festival, and The Suicide Plan (2012), an Emmy-nominated documentary.

Maeve O’Boyle
Maeve O’Boyle is an award-winning producer and film editor. She directed the documentary The Education of Mohammad Hussein (2012), which was shortlisted for the Oscar, and the Emmy-winning Firestone and the Warlord (2014). O’Boyle co-directed of The 8th, a 2020 film about the campaign to overturn the eighth amendment of the Irish constitution banning abortion that had passed in 1983 via referendum.
