Anne Hathaway in the film adaptation of Ottessa Moshfegh’s novel plays a femme fatale who turns a certain secretary’s world upside down. The young girl’s erotic fascination encourages her to break the chains of social expectations, provincial mentality and suppressed desires.

William's debut feature film Lady Macbeth (2016) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, 2016 and was awarded the European Discovery Prix FIPRESCI at the 30th European Film Awards in Berlin, 2017. In 2013 his short film  Best won the Sundance LondonShort Film Competition before screening at the Sundance Festival, 2014. As director-in-residence at the Young Vic Theatre, London he staged contemporary adaptations of European classics. His opera productions include Pergolesi in Portugal and Donizetti for ETO at Sadler's Wells, London.
