We meet Roman at a funeral after his twin brother Rocky (Dylan O’Brien’s double role) dies in a car crash. At a support group meeting for people who lost their twin siblings and are now ‘twinless’ he meets Dennis (played by the director himself) and quickly befriends him. For the timid Roman who struggles with his emotions, this new relationship is an opportunity to grieve, to say goodbye to his brother, but also to recognize his feelings better. What he doesn’t know is that Dennis is hiding his reason for going to the meetings – while Dennis is perfectly aware, that if he revealed it, their whole friendship would be at risk.
In his second feature James Sweeney uses a whole palette of emotional tones – he moves seamlessly from a charming, yet slightly biting comedy, to a serious drama which asks question which have no good answers. Moving skillfully between perspectives, timelines and moods, the director tells a story about loss, guilt, and most of all – a desire for closeness which is impossible to shake.
Born in 1990, the American director, screenwriter, producer, and actor is a graduate of Chapman University.
