Izzy Gets the Fuck Across Town

Christian Papierniak, USA 2017, 86’
Polish premiere
Ghostbox Cowboy Jules of Light and Dark

Los Angeles suburbs. The end of the world. There is no way to reach the center without a car. But Izzy's car broke down and she wakes up in someone's bed next to a man she doesn't even know. She has a hangover and her uniform is dirty, which tells that she was working as a barmaid the night before. It could be an ordinary morning, if it weren't for the fact that her ex-boyfriend is throwing an engagement party today. Old love never dies and jealousy blooms quickly. Izzy, pissed off as f**k, decides to get through the City of Angels (even on foot if she has to) and break into the paradise she had been kicked out of. She misses the serenity she had in a relationship. Serenity is also nowhere to be found in the full-length debut of Christian Papierniak, who applied a technique involving quickly changing shots and tells the story of a woman defined by constant movement, shouting and pursuing her goal desperately. Izzy is under pressure and on the verge of a nervous breakdown. She finds peace, although in a situation that no one would expect - including herself.
