Dead Women Walking

Nine women who must look death in the face. Each of them, waiting for the execution, will act differently. Helen will meet with her son she had given up for adoption. Celine will watch a documentary about the crimes she committed. Wendy will play cards with a cellmate, who is the only one who can somehow replace her mother. There are also the people who witness their last moments - a nun trying to smuggle drugs to calm down a the terrified convict, guards who show sympathy, families of the victims and condemned to death. Dead Women Walking, which had its premiere at the New York Tribeca Film Festival, is the first American movie of an Israeli director, Hagar Ben-Asher, who had already attempted an exploration of women's complicated nature in  The Slut and The Burglar. This time her humanist message joins the anti-capital punishment movies, such as A Short Film About Killing or Dead Man Walking. Among the cast there are the stars of American independent films - Ashton Sanders known from Moonlight and Dale Dickey, who appeared in the Winter's Bone - award winning entry at the AFF in 2010.

Hagar Ben-Asher

Director, screenwriter, actress. Born in Israel, where graduated from Minshar School of Art in 2007. The same year her 19-minute film Pathways was displayed at the Cannes Festival in the Cinéfondation section. Four years later Ben-Asher returned to Cannes with The Slut , a feature-length film, which was selected for the Critics' Week. Last year at the festival in Rotterdam she presented The Burglar and this week at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York -  Dead Women Walking, the first film she directed in the USA.
