The Miseducation of Cameron Post
Teenage Cameron (Chloë Grace Moretz) has a serious problem. Caught by her boyfriend having sex with another girl at prom, she is sent to a center that is supposed to turn young people struggling with homosexuality into exemplary Christians. Although she is still uncertain of her identity, she wants to discover it on her own terms, not to find it in the Bible. In this award-winning film at Sundance, based on a novel by Emily M. Danforth, director Desiree Akhavan takes a mature look at the subject matter and doesn't poke fun at anything: not religion or conservative views, and certainly not her confused protagonists, whose struggle for independence is sometimes limited to a furtive cigarette or a bravura rendition of the 4 Non Blondes' song What's Up? In the end, it's clear that this hit from the 1990s is quite capable of delivering more than one message.
Desiree Akhavan
Born in New York in 1984, Desiree Akhavan is An American director, actress and writer with Iranian roots. She appeared in the iconic HBO series Girls and in Flowers alongsideOlivia Colman. Her full-length debut, the 2014 film Appropriate Behavior, in which she also played the lead role, was screened at numerous international festivals, including Sundance, where she won the jury award for her latest dramedy starring Chloë Grace Moretz, The Miseducation of Cameron Post.
