In the town of Salem four teenage girls get accused of publishing online personal information about members of this small community. An actual witch-hunt starts - fairly innocent at the beginning, but quickly turning into a series of violent, bloody attacks. Assassination Nation is a true masterpiece of the midnight movie genre. In fact the audience is warned about it several times in the opening credits. This means a lot of violence, swearing and blood, therefore more sensitive viewers are advised to find another movie to watch, preferably a costume drama. Levinson uses any means necessary to create his own, modern version of The Crucible. The director re-tells a known story, employing aesthetically sophisticated means to the scenes that may go down in popular culture history, makes a fetish of items and add his own commentary on the pace of social changes - all of that within the concept of a home invasion movie. The "Hollywood Reporter" called the movie: Energetically lurid, gratuitously violent and a hell of a lot of fun, horror-satire Assassination Nation is a throwback to black-comedy teen flicks of yore, but with a bitingly timely feel.
