Dollhouse: The Eradication of Female Subjectivity in American Popular Culture

In the town of Salem four teenage girls get accused of publishing online personal information about members of this small community. An actual witch-hunt starts - fairly innocent at the beginning, but quickly turning into a series of violent, bloody attacks. Assassination Nation is a true masterpiece of the midnight movie genre. In fact the audience is warned about it several times in the opening credits. This means a lot of violence, swearing and blood, therefore more sensitive viewers are advised to find another movie to watch, preferably a costume drama. Levinson uses any means necessary to create his own, modern version of The Crucible. The director re-tells a known story, employing aesthetically sophisticated means to the scenes that may go down in popular culture history, makes a fetish of items and add his own commentary on the pace of social changes - all of that within the concept of a  home invasion movie. The "Hollywood Reporter" called the movie: Energetically lurid, gratuitously violent and a hell of a lot of fun, horror-satire Assassination Nation is a throwback to black-comedy teen flicks of yore, but with a bitingly timely feel.
