The End of Love

Mark Webber, USA 2012, 89’
Explicit Ills The Ever After

The life of a single parent is not easy. An actor named Mark (Mark Webber) learns this the hard way. Between castings, he takes care of his two-year-old son, Issac, and he can barely make ends meet. The End of Love offers a realistic look at life in an atomized society. Mark, a widower, is isolated. When he falls into debt, he’s thrown out of the apartment he shares with friends. The light at the end of the tunnel is Lydia (Shannyn Sossamon), the owner of a private preschool, who, like him, is raising a child on her own. Hanging over a potential romance is their past. The drama facing the main character, played by the director (whose child also plays a role in the film), is an interwoven set of paradoxes, aspirations, and contradictory feelings related to being a single parent, having an uncertain professional situation, and mourning. The film premiered at the Sundance Festival.

Mark Webber

Mark Webber is an American director, producer, screenwriter, and actor known for his roles in both commercial films such as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and independent projects, such as Dear Wendy and Broken Flowers. He grew up in a poor suburb of Philadelphia, where he and his mother were homeless for a long time. The experience of extreme poverty has had an impact on his career as a filmmaker, as he consistently situates himself on the margins of the mainstream.
