Ludi (Shein Mompremier) likes to work overtime in her job as a retirement home nurse because she sends almost all her wages to family in Haiti. She hardly thinks about herself at all, and her American Dream, like millions of others, is paid for by countless sacrifices, sleepless nights and endless worries, without any certainty that she will eventually succeed. There are many stories like hers in Miami's Haitian community, as in the rest of the United States. Nearly everyone seeks to follow their dreams and build a new reality in the land of great opportunities. The American Dream will come true for but a few, while the vast majority will slowly fade, surrendering to the routine of daily life and the ordinary, grinding struggle for survival. Ludi is inspired by the real experiences of director Edson Jean's mother when she emigrated from Haiti and settled in the States, for better or worse. It is a record of her intense struggle and persistent confrontation with mounting adversities.

Audience award nominated film. Please pick up a voting card on entering the screening and tear in a place marking your opinion and throw it into an assigned box after the screening (cards and boxes will be available at the theaters). The filmmakers have a chance of winning $10,000.
