First Date I’m Fine (Thanks for Asking)

If you could to imagine Thelma and Louise in a rather psychedelic indie edition with some Bollywood atmosphere, it would probably be the debut of a young Indian filmmaker living in New York, Prashanth Kamalakanthan. Jyothi (played by the director's mother) is an Indian woman immigrant starting out in the United States. Sophie plays in a rock band and feels like everything is spinning out of control. The accidental meeting of these two extremely different people marks the beginning of their stormy acquaintance, and an adventure that will bring them much closer than they ever anticipated. Jyothi and Sophie set off on an unexpected road trip towards Montreal, experiencing various crises, discoveries and doubts along the way. For the director himself, this film trip is a kind of nostalgic return - mainly to places from his childhood in North Carolina, which became his second homeland.

Audience award nominated film. Please pick up a voting card on entering the screening and tear in a place marking your opinion and throw it into an assigned box after the screening (cards and boxes will be available at the theaters). The filmmakers have a chance of winning $10,000.
