Ted K
The story of Ted Kaczynski (Sharlto Copley), a.k.a. the Unabomber, has fascinated filmmakers for several decades. A genius mathematician who completed his Ph.D. in record time only to abandon a promising science career and recluse to a cabin in the Montana mountains without electricity and running water is a dream movie script. In real life, radicalization and anarchist impulses led Kaczynski astray. For over 15 years he sent bombs to those who openly promoted modern technology, which he considered destructive and harmful. For these activities he was convicted and sentenced to multiple life sentences. Tony Stone had been preparing this portrait of a terrorist for many years, shooting close to the real place where Ted K's cabin had stood - all in order to best capture the nature and essence of the transformation from genius into the personification of evil. Ted K is not a conventional biopic, but rather, as a reviewer of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, a hypnotic composition about violence, isolation and the nature of the essence of evil. The film premiered at the Berlinale festival.
Tony Stone
Tony Stone is a cinematographer and director, as well as a screenwriter and editor from New York. Together with his wife Melissa Auf der Maur, he co-owns Basilica Hudson, an artistic hall in Hudson, New York. His Out of Our Minds was shown at Sundance, and Peter and the Farm garnered great reviews, including from critics in the Guardian and the New York Times. Ted K premiered at the Berlin festival.
