Jethica
An original story of a strange journey, friendships and spirits that exist in this world along with the living – and are very eager to accost them. Jethica, Pete Ohs’s (Out of Reach, Youngstown) strange, disturbing and dark-humor film was well received at South by Southwest.
There is an endearingly throwback vibe to Pete Ohs’ “Jethica,” a deadpan supernatural dramedy that lasts less than 70 minutes, but feels animated by a host of ghosts, not just of individual movies, but of entire filmmaking movements past. In particular, the restrictions of shooting in a pandemic seem to have liberated some of the gonzo spirit of an early-90s microbudget indie, the kind that happened when a gang of friends, armed with little more than enthusiasm and weapons-grade cinephilia, maxed out their credit cards on a couple of weeks in the desert and came back with sunburn on their noses and an inspired riff on a genre or six in the can.
Pete Ohs
Pete Ohs is an American director, cinematographer and editor. He made music videos for bands such as Slow Club, Wavves and The Fiery Furnaces, and in 2013 „Filmmaker’s Magazine” counted him among the top new faces of independent cinema to watch. Julia Garner starred in his acclaimed first feature film Everything Beautiful Is Far Away. His film, Youngstown (12. AFF), examines a city in Ohio. As an editor he worked, among others, one the film Beast, Beast, shown at the American Film Festival.
