"A Star Is Born" starring Lady Gaga to open the American Film Festival

Hal Ashby: a retrospective of a Hollywood Rebel Dinner with Flynn McGarry and "Chef Flynn"

A Star Is Born, directed by Bradley Cooper, will open this year's American Film Festival in Wrocław. The picture, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival, has been getting excellent reviews all around the world. In addition to Cooper himself, the film also stars living music legend Lady Gaga.

A Star Is Born is Cooper’s directorial debut (having been nominated three times for an Oscar for his acting roles in Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle and American Sniper). He creates a magnetic on-screen duo with Lady Gaga, the queen of stylistic metamorphoses, who this time plays Ally, a shy but talented singer still waiting for a breakthrough in her career. There to help is Jackson Maine (Cooper), a charismatic country music star who is really tired of his life. Their encounter results in a fiery romance and an explosion in Ally's popularity, thus triggering a conflict between one fading star and another on the rise. A Star Is Born has been praised for its excellent cinematography and phenomenal music (several songs from the film will definitely become hits), as well as for its intelligent portrayal of American show business, which, despite its glitz, is often more like a soulless machine.
