Roll Red Roll

Nancy Schwartzman, USA 2018, 80’
Polish premiere
Phantom Cowboys Satan & Adam

The only things that the inconspicuous town of Steubenville, Ohio, can boast of are that it is the birthplace of singer Dean Martin and home to a football team that, in 2012, newspapers all over the country were writing about-not because of the team's success but rather because of the rape of a 16-year-old girl that several players committed. In her shocking documentary, Nancy Schwartzman shows that rape culture is alive and well and that victims, even those who are underage, are criticized for what they were wearing when they were raped. They used to suspend you for something like that, but now they want to put you in jail, says one of the town's residents, most of whom would like to forget about the entire affair. What did they do to the girl? Now she's really raped, adds an amused young man in one of the videos recorded on a mobile phone upon watching the "feat" that the attackers boasted of on social media. Fully aware that his community cares only about victories, not the harm done to some girl.
