Thursday at the Festival: 40 screenings, 11 Q&As, and masterclass by Perry
Today, we echo the performances of Liza Minnelli and Frank Sinatra: “New York, New Yoooork” and we encourage you to follow the East Coast trail on Festival Thursday. A masterclass with Alex Ross Perry, a cinematic representative of this part of the US and this year’s Indie Star Award recipient, will begin at 7:00 PM. In today’s program, you’ll catch three films directed by Perry (Golden Exit; The Color Wheel; Her Smell), one in his production (The Sweet East), along with a set of documentaries and music videos.
Thursday at the AFF is also a continuous cornucopia on cinema screens, with as many as 40 film screenings lined up. We especially recommend that you pay close attention to those screenings followed by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers – you’ll find the list below.

How to create characters who are repulsive and unsympathetic, but you can’t take your eyes of them? How to maintain your own, inimitable style in a sea full of sharks also known as the American film industry? These and many other questions will be answered by our special guest, an exceptional director, screenwriter, and producer, the star of this year’s retrospective, and one of the Indie Star Award recipients – Alex Ross Perry. During the masterclass, we will present a film surprise – exclusively for American Film Festival viewers.

After a day spent in a theater chair, it’s crucial to take care of your health with some proper exercise. Later in the evening, we invite you to Aff-ter Parties, where the warm-up takes the form of dancing. We’ll meet you at Recepcja and DOBRO clubs, situated in the neon-lit space at 46a Ruska Street, right next to the New Horizons Cinema. Starting at 9:00 PM, with czubakaczor at the helm behind the console at Recepcja. All those with tickets, passes or accreditations on hand will be eligible for a 10% discount at the bars.

Sneak peek: festival Friday
Friday is beautiful for two reasons. Firstly, it marks the beginning of the weekend. Secondly, it’s a Friday at the American Film Festival, making it already the most beautiful day of all. Tomorrow, we invite you to 11 exciting events. These include a conversation with Katarzyna Figura, who will talk about her collaboration with Robert Altman, a discussion following Break the Game (in the crossfire of questions: Radek Pisula and Borys Nieśpielak), a literary meeting with Piotr Jagielski, and in the evening, an Aff-ter Party at Recepcja and DOBRO.
