It would be a sin not to start Sunday’s announcements with two must-see meetings: today, you can not only listen to the wonderful Susan Seidelman during her masterclass, but also meet a new resident of the American suburbs. Certified cinephile, master documentarian, and Indie Star Award winner Alexandre O. Philippe has arrived in Wrocław! And since it’s Sunday, we especially recommend screenings of Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on “The Exorcist” and 78/52, both followed by conversations with our special guest.
You can celebrate this festival Sunday with 44 screenings at the New Horizons Cinema (plus dozens of titles available online). Be sure to choose those with opportunities to meet the creators—today there are 11 Q&As to pick from. You can also join the conversation at the Immersja Film Discussion Club (DKF) or the Pełna Sala Film Discussion Club (DKF). We’ll wrap up the day at the Top Floor Bar (second floor of the cinema), with good music and great company during Corona Sunset Hours.
We’ll end the day with music, but we’ll also start it that way. At 10:15 a.m., bring your kids (or don’t—let’s be honest, this screening will charm audiences from 6 to 106) to screening room 6 for a set of classic animations (Polish classics—Reksio, Bolek and Lolek, Czapu-Czipu—all on American adventures) accompanied by live music performed by Aleksandra Korpak and Jan Korpak, a.k.a. Music Project (Projekt Muzyka).
On screen: Confessions of a Suburban Girl and three episodes of Sex and the City (including the iconic pilot). In front of the screen: Susan Seidelman, who will lead today’s masterclass. Together, we’ll revisit 1970s New York—rich, raw, and wonderfully unpolished. We’ll talk about film school, artistic circles, and the community of cinema lovers who lived in old lofts and abandoned brownstones. We’ll discuss the situation of women in the film industry then and now, and reflect on the visibility and representation of female directors in the history of cinema. The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Patrycja Mucha-Smolińska from the National Film Archive—Audiovisual Institute, partner of the Susan Seidelman retrospective.

A night of comedy featuring three veterans who dare to claim they started stand-up in Wrocław. Derrek Carriveau, Jim Williams, and Christian A. Dumais take the stage with their sharp, outsider takes on film, music, and more. The show kicks off right after the Are We Good? screening at 7:00 p.m. (Admission to the stand-up is included with a ticket or reservation for the screening, as part of a pass or accreditation.)
Conversations about cinema continue at the cinema—this time with music and dancing. From 9 p.m., head to the second floor of KNH, where the Top Floor Bar turns into a lively spot for Corona Sunset Hours. Behind the decks: Flshbck.
Wondering what to wear during the festival? All your unkempt thoughts are best adorned with an American baseball cap or a beanie for cooler days. A tote will go with any outfit—durable, minimalist, inspired by suburban icons. Complete the set with a pin featuring our iconic star and a beautiful, handmade mug from the lovely people at Zakwas Studio. The merch is waiting for you online or at the New Horizons box office (note: mugs available only on-site).
Remember: film calories need food calories. As always, we’ve prepared a list of great spots near the cinema where you can eat and drink well—and with your festival ticket, pass, or accreditation, enjoy special discounts or exclusive festival offers.
Tomorrow brings 45 screenings at New Horizons Cinema, 7 engaging meetings and a masterclass with the ever-insightful Alexandre O. Philippe. Late in the evening we will say goodbye to AFF-ter parties during the Corona Sunset Hours.
